Hi Mike, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I can see you feel strongly about this, and while we clearly have very different perspectives, I think it’s worth clearing a few things up <3

Welsh is one of the oldest living languages in Europe, and its revival isn’t about excluding anyone—it’s about preserving something deeply rooted in our identity. No one is “forced” to speak Welsh, but kids learning it in school is no different from learning any second language. It opens doors and keeps cultural heritage alive.

Yes, road signs are bilingual—because we’re a bilingual country. But both languages are presented, and English is far from being erased. In fact, the overwhelming majority of daily life in Wales is conducted in English :/

As for job opportunities: Welsh can be a requirement in some public-facing roles, especially in education or healthcare, but that’s about serving Welsh-speaking communities, not shutting others out. Plenty of jobs don’t require Welsh, and everyone is welcome here.

There are definitely challenges in Wales—like anywhere—but painting the whole country and its people as "vile" or “dictators” is unfair and, frankly, inflammatory. I love Wales, not because it’s perfect, but because of its resilience, its language, and its deep sense of community.

You’re entitled to your view—but I’ll continue to be proud of my country and its efforts to keep its language and culture alive <3

Yeah the criminal treatment of the english language and the discrimination against the vast majority who do not speak welsh, all done without the people of wales having any say, the forcing of the welsh language on everyone including all children which is ruining children’s education, a minority language 1st on road signs which are difficult to read unless you speak welsh, but maybe that is what all these 20mph speed limits are for so non welsh speakers have more time to find the language they understand, longest wait times in the uk on the welsh nhs, but then we are having 36 more AM’S instead, how lucky can we get? and we did not even ask for them, yes wales, a country run by vile dictators, welsh nationalist abusers of power, wales soon to be like gwynedd in the push for the erasure of the english language in wales, yes wales is great, but do not dare speak english, and do not expect to get a job in wales if you do not speak welsh, the discriminate welsh language laws will stop you, a country that has declared war on it’s own people, what a lovely country, NOT.

I agree, I am Welsh myself and nothing can stop me from loving our country. Plus, we have the second longest place name in the world.

I've been to Scotland and England, yet I'm so terrible happy I missed Wales because I don't deserve that gorgeousness in my life ;)

I love the tone of this post, it's so fun! Clearly this has made me want to go to Wales more than anything haha. I'm a big fan of castles and history so Wales is a place I want to explore more in the future!
