FAQ

Amy Aed at Coney IslandWHAT IS WANDERING EVERYWHERE?

Since its launch in early 2012, this blog has taken on a number of names and themes, finally settling on the travel page you see today. Over the years I’ve given travel advice I wished I’d followed, posted photo diaries of small-town workers in flourishing new cities, and talked about saving enough money to live like the locals and chug afternoon vodka in little Polish cafes. Wandering Everywhere is a blog set out to inspire others to live a life of a travel in a way that needn’t be scary, expensive, or isolating – where wandering and wondering go hand in hand. Let’s turn the world travel-hungry.

HOW DO YOU HAVE THE MONEY TO TRAVEL?

To be completely frank, travel is the main motivator in my life, and so I tend to save every penny from working and grants and put it back into airfares and hostels. Technically though, there’s a bit more to the process than that – so why not stalk the blog to learn my secrets?

DOESN’T CROHN’S HOLD YOU BACK?

It’s actually crazy how much my life is affected by Crohn’s – from the constant exhaustion and fatigue to the hospital visits and self-doubt, with endless days both beginning and ending with the inability to leave my bed. However, several months after I started talking about this taboo illness online, I received an email from a reader who was completely incapacitated with a similar autoimmune disease. They told me about how they craved a life full of adventure, a life that made them fall in love with living again. From that moment on, I gave up the self-pity and decided to really turn a shoddy situation into an outlet to inspire others, whilst simultaneously living my own dreams. If you can learn anything from this blog, let it be that regardless of the limitations holding you back, there’s nothing stopping you from living the life you want – after all, if I can do it then so can you.

WHAT DO YOU USE TO TAKE AND EDIT YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS?

I use a Nikon D5300 with an 18-55mm lens to shoot all of my photos, editing them with  Photoshop and Lightroom (a must-have for perfecting my photographs).

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE DESTINATION?Amy Aed in Prague, Czechia

This is always such a hard question to answer! At the moment however, I think I’ve definitely got to say that Italy is my favourite as there’s so many cities and towns within it that I admire. From Burano to Verona to Florence to Rome, every aspect of Italian life and culture is one I absolutely adore.

WHERE DO YOU WANT TO GO NEXT?

I’m constantly saying that I want to visit Peru next in the hope that one day it will be true, and honestly I blame the Disney movie Up for planting such high longing for South America in my mind from a young age. It’s also a cliché to want to visit Machu Picchu in the hope of following the trail of the Incas, but a cliché I so want to live up to.

WHO IS YOUR TRAVEL INSPIRATION?

So as we all know, my ultimate goal in life is to be a modern-day explorer, with a neat little documentary series on the side and a handful of novels under my belt. One of the first people that showed me that this was possible was Levison Wood – he has been on some truly amazing expeditions, and quite frankly, I didn’t know that it was even possible to explore on that great a scale in this modern age. I am also a big fan of Reza Pakravan, as it was his drive alone that resulted in his documentary contract, along with bloggers like Brooke Saward for initially showing me that I could turn my passion for travel into a career.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE TEA?

Another hard one! I’ll be biased and say that it is probably Genmaicha Popcorn Tea from my very own tea business, Eisa Tea Co. It’s a little bit sweet, a little bit nutty, and best of all, has been picked by the Kinezuka family in Shizuoka, Japan! It’s probably the first time that I’ve ever fallen in love this deeply with a green tea before, though – my go-to is usually Broken Silver, Masala Chai, or even a simple white tea!
