ROLLER SKATING: THE ULTIMATE FORM OF SELF LOVE

As y’all may have noticed if you’ve been following my Instagram, I recently re-discovered my love for skating, and as such, have spent the majority of each day skating in some random skatepark in Asia. And honestly, it’s making me question why I stopped skating for so long.

I’m back on wheels and remember just how much damn joy it brings me – I feel more confident in my abilities, my body is stronger, and I looove wandering around new cities with the cutest skates anyone has ever seen. Frankly, it’s all I talk about.

Wandering the world on wheels

First up, one of my favourite things about skating is the sense of connection that comes with it. Step into a skate park with a pair of quads and suddenly a whole community opens up to you, helping you with tricks and offering support. Skaters seem to bond instantly, regardless of where they’re from, and it’s made me feel at home in places I couldn’t even pronounce at first.

Falling the fuck down

Here’s the thing about skating: it teaches you to be cool with messing up. Those bruises? Badges of honour. That epic wipeout at the park? A story for the ages. Each time I eat dirt, I’m learning – not just about how to nail a trick, but about how to bounce back. And when I finally nailed that 180 fakie from the coping? Honestly, nothing can beat that rush.

Bare healthy init fam

I swear down, since skating, my legs have gotten stronger, my balance is less questionable than before, and my arms have been getting one hell of a workout from stopping me from slamming my face into concrete each time.

All of this comes together to make me pay a bit more attention to my body and how appreciative I am that it can function like this. I never knew how badass it could be.

Repping cute gear

And let’s not forget the geaaaar. Every single skater I’ve seen has a lil’ sprinkle of personality in their gear, and I love to see it. Personally, sorting out my set-up before I left for Asia was one of the most exciting parts about preparing for the trip.

Plus, there’s something super empowering about strapping on your gear and knowing you’re about to kill it.

Right now, I’m in a hostel in Bangkok just ITCHING for the sun to go down so I can head out for a skate. With my Chuffed skates, Hive Skate Club helmet, and wheels and bearings from Bones, I’m ready to go out and smash it.

And man, I’m gonna look hella cute whilst I do so.
